The theft of a person’s identity is an increasing problem with identity crime costing Australians $4B a year.
The protection of personal information is now more important than ever so giving away personal information to multiple organisations increases the risk of someone stealing your identity. With the current paper based ID verification process the risk of fraud and identity theft increases.
The solution is a safe and secure on-line application service with access to government issued documentation and verification – PharmacyID.
To join PharmacyID now, there is no cost. After this period there may be joining fees, dependent upon the number of pharmacies in your area.
Your pharmacy will be paid $6 (incl. GST) for each NPC approved. Payment will be made automatically on the first day of each month directly into your account.
Joining our network will create a strong and powerful identity service for consumers right across Australia. Apart from providing you with income for services that you currently provide for free, we will also be able to drive foot traffic into your pharmacy.
Each year more than 5 million people have police checks completed and we want as many of these to come to their local pharmacy as possible. As available services expand throughout the network we expect more and more Australians to identify their local pharmacy as the ‘go to’ place for identity services. Higher levels of checks will attract higher remuneration.
Initially, for police checks, a pharmacist will need no more equipment than they probably already have.
Here is a list:
Police ChecksAs more Verification of Identity (VoI) services become available, PharmacyID will advise if any additional equipment is required.
Building the network of active pharmacies is our priority in the first twelve months. Conducting NPC is only the first of many applications that will generate revenue for your pharmacy. Future applications like passport and visa applications, proof of age cards, and identity verification for banks and other institutions will generate greater revenue for your pharmacy.
Establishing a network of pharmacies in Australia is key to building a strong and robust national service. Identity services will commence with witnessing identity documents for the purpose of completing police checks. This service requires no additional hardware and the pharmacy will only require internet access to complete the task. As the person has already paid for their check, once the pharmacy views the identity documents and ticks the relevant box, an invoice is automatically created and the pharmacy is paid for all checks done in a monthly automatic payment.
We have placed the fee for a police check at $6.00 (includes GST). As the level of service rises, so will the remuneration.
Verification of Identity (VoI) services can be as simple as witnessing a person’s original documents and signing a photocopy to say that it is identical with the original. These types of documents are usually drivers licenses, passports, photographs etc., and are currently being used by government authorities and commercial organisations to identify people. PharmacyID take the manual check out of the equation and verify peoples identity and their documents digitally, without the individual having to give anyone a copy of their precious identity documents, decreasing the incidence of Identity Theft.
This will be dependent on the local population and your location. We expect verification of identity for Police Checks to build over time and for consumers to identify with their local pharmacy for these and other types of services.
All you need is a computer/POS with active internet. A barcode reader will assist, however the barcode details may be entered manually.
Any trusted employee who has completed the training can conduct identity verification.

Information we receive about individuals will never be disclosed to any other organisation, company etc., for any purpose counter to the individuals’ privacy. This is due to, in some instances, legislation. For instance, you are not permitted by law to disclose information about people in regard to police checks they have submitted. Additionally, the directors of PharmacyID are adamant about maintaining people’s privacy and security.
Over 120 organisations in Victoria alone use your driver’s license as a form of identity, and they often photocopy the license. Every time you permit someone to copy your driver’s license you are potentially giving away your identity. PharmacyID are serious about maintaining people’s privacy, unlike organisations that sell your information to companies overseas. PharmacyID will never sell, give away, permit access to, any information about Pharmacists, or PharmacyID clients to anyone, unless provided for by the law. n.b. You will see privacy items mentioned in your contract.
Training for each new service will only be required if new identity functions are needed. The Verification of Identity (VoI) system will always have the same look and feel. As services are added, the system will be enhanced with additional function boxes that will prompt new activity. e.g. proof of identity card: Identity verification is the same but new training will be required on how to take an ICAO standard photograph.
Yes, PharmacyID has met with the PGA who are supportive of any opportunity to increase the value of the pharmacy network and help pharmacies diversify their businesses and remain profitable.
PharmacyID has been designed to eliminate the risk of someone stealing your identity and reduce the risk and inconvenience of copying your ID documents and then hunting around for someone to certify. Sending through the postal service can take a great deal of time and risks inteception by criminals. Your local trusted PharmacyID member can verify your identity quickly and securely by checking your original ID documents. No more copies and no waiting for the mail.
75% of our police checks are returned within the hour whilst the remaining 25% can take anywhere between 2 - 20 business days to be completed and returned.
The Long Answer:Prior to Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) being formed, all police checks were State based only. Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) was formed to bring together police records from all the State and Territory Police Forces. The Chief Commissioners of the Police Forces are directors of Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC). The police records that Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) holds are the names and dates of birth of everyone who has a criminal conviction with any of the police forces. These records are held on what is known as the National Names Index (NNI). When a police check is conducted, the NNI is interrogated to see if there is a match between the applicant and a NNI record. When the NNI is interrogated, it also cross checks different spellings of the applicants name. For instance if the application is in the name Geoff Patterson, it will check all the spellings of both names, i.e. Geoffrey, Jeffrey, Jeff, Geoff and Patterson, Paterson, Pattision etc. If there is a match on the NNI, the check will be sent to the police force that holds the record and a manual search of the records will be conducted to ensure that the applicant and the record held are for one and the same person and, if there is a criminal record, whether the criminal record will be released. Release of the record will be dependent upon Spent Conviction legislation or protocols and it will also depend on the type of check conducted. i.e. an Aged Care check may return more criminal history than an ordinary check. Obviously then, a person with a common name will be more likely to match a NNI record than a person with an unusual name.
The results of your police check are made available online. You must log in to your online account in order to print your police check certificate. If you cannot recall the username or password for your online account please contact PharmacyID on 1300 937 487. If you require a signed hard copy from PharmacyID please send a stamped self-addressed envelope to P.O. Box 611 Moonee Ponds
Police check applications cost $52.00 including GST and must be paid for online using a Credit Card.
Once your application has been submitted and paid for you will be provided with a map displaying the nearest PharmacyID member based upon the postcode or Suburb that you enter. This map is interactive and can be changed to suit the location that best suits you.
You can have your application validated by using the Police Check Lookup Tool that is available from our site. Please visit https://pharmacyid.com.au/NPC/PoliceCheck/LookupTool and complete the fields and click search. A legitimate check will then be displayed.
The police check results are dependent upon entering correct details of the Occupation and Purpose for the check. For example, more criminal history details are released by police if the purpose is working unsupervised in an Aged Care facility, than if you are working as an assistant in a grocery store. Full details of the occupation and purpose are critical in ensuring that you have the correct police check. Failure to properly disclose these details will render the police check invalid.
ACIC recommends that police checks are not transferable as they are only a “point in time” check. Changing employers therefore requires that a new police check be completed.
PharmacyID is an online service and do not provide an ‘over the counter’ service. The PharmacyID member pharmacy will check your required identity documents and submit your check but cannot begin your application.
There are certain checks that PharmacyID cannot conduct. Below are examples of some
checks we are not able to supply:
VISA Applications, Operational policing, Police applicants/recruits, Corrections/prison
services/parole board, Court officials, Court processes, Firearms/ammunition licensing,
Judges, Magistrates, Jurors, Justices of the Peace, VicRoads applications, Taxi
Directorate, Any Police Checks that
require fingerprints. Please consult a PharmacyID staff member on 1300 937 487 if you
are unsure about being able to use a third party broker.
Police checks are a point in time check and should not be relied upon for an unreasonable amount of time for this purpose. Legislative requirements differ in regard to how long a police check can be used. For example, in the Aged Care industry, a police check is valid for three years, after which time it must be renewed. N.B. ACIC recommends that police checks are not transferable as they are only a “point in time” check. Changing employers therefore requires that a new police check be completed.
The Working with Children Check and the Aged /Vulnerable/Children police check are the same police checks, however the WWC check includes additional background screening. Therefore a WWC must be applied for separately.
For persons under the age of 18 looking to complete a police check a parent or guardian must sign the consent form to provide consent.
