Document Verification Service(DVS)

How the DVS works

PharmacyID is a Gateway Service Provider for the federal Government Document Verification Service (DVS) who electronically confirms the evidence of identity documents that match records held by the government authority that issued it.

Through the DVS, PharmacyID clients are able to check if the details of these government issued documents are still valid and not expired or cancelled. Within seconds, the DVS can validate documents and credentials issued by Australian Government, state and territory government agencies. By providing a customers personal details (as they appear on the documents), PharmacyID sends an electronic request to the Government agencies via the DVS. The DVS then determines if the document details are valid and return a verifying indicator back to PharmacyID. The result is then sent back to the client VOI process to be considered as part of your overall outcome.

The Australian Federal Government through AUSTRAC has published Information on how The Document Verification Service can be used to help identify individual customers and beneficial owner identifications part of your AML/CTF program.

Verifiable documents

The following Australian evidence of identity credentials can be matched through the DVS:

  • birth certificates
  • certificates of registration by descent
  • change of name certificates
  • citizenship certificates
  • driver licences
  • ImmiCards
  • marriage certificates
  • Medicare cards
  • passports
  • visas.

The DVS is generally considered more reliable than screen-scraping or web-transacting, as screen-scraping may not check all of the details you think you are checking. As an unauthorised verification method, it is unlikely to be as accurate and current as a DVS check.
